Make no mistake – this stylus is significantly more expensive than others on the market. It is designed specifically to work with a handful of apps available for the iPad. This particular stylus is co-branded with Evernote so I tried it with Evernote’s free Penultimate app.
Installation wasn’t too difficult but I did need to pop up a video on the Adonit site for instructions. The device pairs via Bluetooth but does so through the app and not through the iPad’s system preferences screen. The Bluetooth component helps to improve accuracy by helping the app to ignore a palm resting on the iPad while writing.
That feature generally works ok, although I did find it didn’t work as well towards the bottom of the screen vs. the top.
My largest gripe, and the reason for the low rating I am applying to this product is the overall poor accuracy and resolution of the electronic ink and a very noticeable delay it takes for that ink to appear. The delay and accuracy gets worse the faster you write, making my chicken scratch even less legible. I compare it in the video to a nearly twenty year old Newton MessagePad. The Newton does electronic ink better.
For the price they’re asking this product needs to be perfect. It’s far from that. Maybe software updates in the future will improve it but at this point it in no way justifies its very high price point.
